Low carb, lower fat snacks

Posted on July 1, 2009. Filed under: Miscellaneous |

Okay, so I’m trying to come up with lower carb, lower fat snacks for us. The man’s days of snacking as desired on meat and cheese and bread are over. The Glycemic Index should help with this if we can keep the snacks under the 55 mark. Of course, the higher the GI and/or fat, the smaller the amount we can have.

Here are some of the snack possibilities:

a small amount of healthy nuts such as walnuts and almonds

homemade trail mix made with nuts and seeds, and a small amount of fruit like unsweetened coconut, a few dried banana chips, a few dried apricots, etc.

low GI fruit in moderate portions

raw vegetables such as carrot, broccoli, cauliflower

homemade bran muffins made to be lower in carbs and fat

That’s about all I can think of right now and that’s a problem.

Thoughts and ideas?
